Nationally, abortion was literally on the ballot in ten states last week. Measures meant to protect abortion passed in Arizona, Colorado, Maryland, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, and New York, but failed in Florida, Nebraska, and South Dakota. This election saw the highest number of statewide abortion-related ballot measures in a single year, surpassing the previous record of six in twenty twenty-two. Before this year, voters had voted in favor of abortion every time the issue has been on state ballots since the US Supreme Court overturned Roe 2 years ago.
How encouraging to know that these pro-abortion referenda can be defeated. Unfortunately, on this issue here in Wisconsin we have two court cases asking our state supreme court to find a right to abortion in our constitution. Rather than we the people tackling this life-and-death issue through our legislative branch, it’s now in the hands of liberal justices.
