As euthanasia becomes normalized and legalized in Canada, a ballot initiative in West Virginia is seeking to enshrine protections against medically assisted suicide in their state constitution. A state delegate said, quote, “The amendment just places what’s already illegal in West Virginia into the state constitution for more security going forward.” If passed, West Virginia would become the first state to amend their constitution to prohibit assisted suicide.
West Virginia lawmakers are smart to get ahead of this dangerous movement before it spreads further into the United States. Assisted suicide is the fifth leading cause of death in Canada. We cannot let this horrific practice spread further in our nation. In Wisconsin, two so-called “death with dignity” bills were rejected during this recent legislative session. Let’s keep it that way!
