Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty or WILL has filed a federal lawsuit on behalf of a former teacher in the Argyle School District, for violating the teacher’s Title seven rights, as well as his constitutionally guaranteed free exercise of religion. The district required staff members to use the preferred names and pronouns of transgender students; however, after voicing his religious objection to this rule, this teacher’s contract was not renewed, effectively firing him from his job.

It’s unfortunate that such lawsuits need to be filed, but thankfully WILL is taking on these cases. Public school employees do not give up their constitutional rights when they walk in the school door. A judge who is not a judicial activist should find this case pretty easy. What a student feels about his or her gender is not constitutionally protected but our religious freedom clearly is.
