The Centers for Disease Control reports that in 2022, the US had a significant uptick in the number of marriages, reaching just over two million. This marked the first instance of surpassing the two million mark since 2019. The marriage rate also experienced a marked increase, reaching 6.2 per 1,000 population, the highest rate observed since 2018. Thirty-six states and the District of Columbia reported marriage rates in 2022 that either matched or exceeded those in 2019.
The good news is that Wisconsin is one of those 36 states; the sobering news is only ten other states have marriage rates lower than or equal to our five point three. Incentivizing marriage in our laws and championing marriage in our families and churches can help raise the marriage rate—which will be good for the entire state.
