The Wisconsin Council on Problem Gambling recognizes March as National Problem Gambling Awareness Month, a time dedicated to increasing public awareness of problem gambling and the availability of prevention, treatment, and recovery services. Problem gambling is defined as all gambling behaviors that compromise, disrupt or damage personal, family, or vocational pursuits. Approximately three hundred thirty-three thousand Wisconsin residents have a gambling problem. Last week the state lottery publicly urged responsible gambling.

Oh the irony of the gambling industry urging responsible play, as they call it. Gambling is highly addictive, and it’s predetermined that the house is going to win the vast majority of the time. The best thing families can do is to warn their children about this vice that is so very present via the internet. Remind them that a dollar doesn’t buy hope, but it can result in addiction.
