Just when we think marriage might not ever recover as the sought-after status for the majority of young people and thereby form the strong societal foundation we need, we get news from a Pew Research Study. This study found that nearly seven in ten Americans ages eighteen to thirty-four who have never tied the knot say they’d like to marry in the future. Twenty-three percent say they’re not sure and just eight percent say they don’t want to get married. This is good news!

While it’s definitely true that the age of first marriage is older than in years past, at least young people haven’t completely jettisoned the idea of marriage and still find it desirable. Churches and families should take advantage of this information and purposefully encourage marriage by celebrating it and modeling strong married relationships.
