Life Action reports that Missouri recently saw its first baby saved by the installation of its first Safe Haven Baby Box, where a newborn girl was surrendered safely at a fire station and quickly given care. The station chief said, “To that mother, I would like to say…we loved that baby and cared for that baby the minute we laid eyes on her and the minute we opened up that door,” adding that plans are in the works for a second box elsewhere in the town and talk is beginning about adding more elsewhere in the state.
Our Safe Haven Baby Box law just went into effect late last year. It allows law enforcement, fire stations, and hospitals to add these boxes. Our hope is communities will encourage these places to take advantage of this law, maybe even have fund-raising drives to help pay for the boxes so we too can soon hear babies are being rescued by this means.
