Did you know that churches in Wisconsin that have private schools on their property cannot allow people to legally carry a concealed weapon—even on days when school is not in session? Under current law that’s the reality for many of our churches. Churches without schools can permit concealed carry. A bill under consideration in the state legislature would change that and allow those churches to permit concealed carry to help ensure the safety of those who attend their services and activities whether during a school day or a non-school day.
Churches, which are themselves private entities, with private schools should have the option to allow designated individuals to carry a concealed weapon. We need to afford churches with schools the same option as we do churches without schools. This is a reasonable bill that treats all churches the same.
