On Tuesday, Wisconsin legislative Republicans introduced a package of bills designed to bring tax relief to Wisconsinites. One bill in the package would update the married couple tax credit. Currently married couples filing jointly can claim a three percent credit up to a maximum of four hundred eighty dollars. The bill increases that credit amount to eight hundred seventy dollars. Author Representative Ellen Shutt says this provision will, quote, “allow families to keep more of their hard-earned dollars so that they can spend it how they see fit.”
This bill package is another proposal on how to deal with the state’s historic surplus. Policies that benefit marriage ultimately benefit all of Wisconsin since marriage and family is the foundational institution of every society. Strong, independent families make for a strong, prosperous Wisconsin.
