Those in the Wisconsin legislature seeking to gut the ingenuous Electoral College our founders gave us are at it again. Democrat Senators Kelda Roys and Bob Wirch and Democrat Representative Jimmy Anderson are introducing a bill calling for Wisconsin to join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, which would mean that rather than Wisconsin’s ten electoral votes going to whichever presidential candidate wins our state’s popular vote, our electoral votes would go to whichever candidate wins the national popular vote.
This is a dangerous bill and a dangerous national movement. If enough states agree to this, smaller states such as Wisconsin will be essentially meaningless in a presidential election. The point of the Electoral College is to make both large and small states relevant. Fortunately, because elections have consequences, this bill won’t go anywhere in this legislature.
