“God Will NOT Be Mocked!”

By Jim Schneider, Executive Director

It has become trendy in our society to mock God and to mock Christianity.  It happens repeatedly by many in the entertainment establishment.  It happens on sit-coms and the late-night TV talk shows.  It happens on university campuses and in certain political circles.

A very blatant, contemptuous, scornful mocking was on full display during the recent opening ceremonies of the Olympics in Paris, France.  A drag queen surrounded by others flaunted the LGBT preferred lifestyle, showcasing their deliberate and blasphemous mocking of the Last Supper.

Organizers knew full well that this ceremony attracts a world-wide audience.  As every moment is carefully timed and choreographed, make no mistake this was planned and orchestrated to make their scorn, ridicule and mocking against God and Christianity as obvious as possible.

In the Scriptures, the Last Supper was a very solemn occasion leading up to the betrayal of our Savior, His unjust trial, His death, burial and resurrection.  It’s a display of our Savior’s great love for mankind.  It is nothing of which to be made light or to be mocked!

After outrage was expressed from around the world, a non-apology was delivered by the Paris 2024 spokeswoman, Anne Descamps.  She stated, “There was clearly never an intention to show disrespect to any religious group.  On the contrary, I think we tried to celebrate community, tolerance.  We believe this ambition was achieved.  If people have taken any offense, we’re of course really sorry.”

Really?  How could she or the Olympic Committee not believe this would disrespect Christianity?  While they smear Christianity, she believes that tolerance was achieved?  Where is the tolerance of Biblical Christianity?  Where is their sensitivity to the untold millions of Christians offended by this display?  Where is the outrage against those who mock God?

They had no apology to God to whom they targeted their blasphemy.  No, it was only if you “have taken any offense, we’re of course really sorry.”  The organizers, the promoters, and the designers of the opening ceremony and International Olympic Committee need to bow in humble submission before God, admit their sin and seek His forgiveness.

Had this depiction been a mockery of Islam or of Mohammad, the whole city of Paris would have been shut down in protests and acts of vandalism and violence.  Olympic organizers would have fallen over one another condemning the presentation.  Resignations and firings would have been demanded.  Countries would have walked away from the Olympics.  All media would have branded it as “Islamophobic,” “xenophobic” and “an act of intolerant hatred and bigotry.”  New rules would have been established barring such behavior.

But on the contrary, because it was targeted at insulting God and Christianity under the guise of “community tolerance,” it was accepted with a simple “We’re sorry if you were offended.”  (Try that with Islam.)

The warning from Scripture is very clear, “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” (Galatians 6:7) Indeed, consequences come upon those who mock God and those who represent Him upon this earth.

Do you recall the children mentioned in II Kings 2:23-24 who mocked the prophet, Elisha?  Due to their mocking they were torn apart by two she bears.

Israelites mocked God’s prophet who warned them to turn and repent.  Due to their mocking, horrible consequences came.  “But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy.”  (II Chronicles 36:16)  Their mocking led to their own captivity for many years.

How ironic that those that mocked our Savior at this opening ceremony joined those who mocked Jesus at His crucifixion.  Consider these Scriptures:

“And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!…And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him….Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders…” (Matthew 27:29, 31, 41)

Scriptures clearly warn that such mocking would be characteristic of our time,“How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.  Those be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.” (Jude 18-19)

These verses clearly characterize the ungodly lust and sensuality portrayed by the participants in the Olympic opening ceremony.  Truly another sign that the end is drawing near. And while we speak against this display of degeneracy, we are also reminded that Jesus laid down His life for those who mocked Him and delivered Him up to be crucified.  But He will not be mocked.  Consequences await.  It is far better for such individuals to repent of their sin and turn to the Savior now, rather than to one day meet Him as their eternal Judge!
