Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today.
Does your church emphasize discipleship over evangelism? Sadly, there seems to be a real misunderstanding of the relationship between evangelism and discipleship in many churches today. Too often the thought is that if a church focuses on discipleship, emphasizing growing deep in one’s faith, with the goal of maturing the believer – then evangelism will be a natural outcome. For some believers, this might be true, but for the vast majority of us, unless we receive some actual instruction in how to share our faith, little is going to happen. We’ll be spiritual sponges – taking in and taking in but never wringing out the Good News of the Gospel. Whereas, if we are learning how to share our faith and regularly doing so, spiritual growth is a natural by-product. Sometimes, we just need a plan to get on track.
