“In that old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine, a wondrous beauty I see, for ’twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died, to pardon and sanctify me.” What a beautiful way George Bennard described the cross of Christ in this famous hymn. This, this is the Good News of the Gospel! In the horrible, painful image of our crucified Savior, there is grace and mercy that we don’t deserve—complete forgiveness for all of our wrongs. When we place our trust in Jesus, He takes our sins on Himself and gives us His spotless, perfect life. When God sees us, He sees righteousness. O what a Savior, that while we were yet sinners, Jesus died so that we might be forgiven.
