When we look at what it means to be a mentor, there is no greater example than Jesus Himself. In fact, Jesus did not only mentor the apostles but also at least seventy-two others believers. You can find this story in Luke 10:1 where it says, “After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of Him to every town and place where he was about to go.” Now Jesus had some specific objectives when sending these believers out before Him. He didn’t just say, “Go!” He took time to teach them and prepare them for the hard journey ahead. He told them that they would be like lambs among wolves and shared with them specific ways they could know how and where to share the Gospel. When we mentor others, we also have to prepare them for how they can share their faith and discern the Holy Spirit’s leading. Would you like to learn how to be a great mentor like Jesus?
