God recently spoke to my heart through a line from an old hymn called “My Wonderful Lord.” The fourth verse says:
All the talents I have I have laid at Thy Feet
Thy approval shall be my reward.
Be my store great or small
I surrender it all
To my wonderful, wonderful Lord.
Think on that phrase: “Thy approval shall be my reward.” Shouldn’t that be the goal of every true Christian, to please God and be motivated by seeking His reward?
Unfortunately, that’s often not our default setting. We seek our own agenda of wealth, fame, or approval from people we hardly know or who don’t even care about us. We do so to the neglect of the one person whose approval matters most – our Creator – the Lord Jesus Christ.
When considering options for how you’ll spend the remainder of your day, let the phrase “Thy approval shall be my reward” be your guide for redeeming the time.
