Steven Douglas, of Campus Crusade for Christ, challenges those who are facing a big task to ask a simple question:
“What are three things I could do in the next three months that could make a 50% difference?”
I like this question because it gets to the heart of what we need to do to improve our effectiveness. Douglas notes that most people ask, “What are 300 things we could do in the next 9 years to get us 100% there.” His 50% question on the other hand identifies the big chunks of the project that can be accomplished in a relatively short time frame.
God has ordained that we spend only a short amount of time in this world. There are only so many things we can do in that time. Asking this question, “What are three things I could do in the next three months that could make a 50% difference?” will identify the main activities that redeem the time.
