You’re busy working on a project to help someone when the phone rings. You suspect it might be someone you just don’t have time to talk to. So you have your child answer the phone and tell the caller you aren’t home. That’s good time management, right?
Wrong! When you teach your children it’s OK to lie for you, you are also teaching them it’s OK to lie to you, or to anyone else for that matter. We live in a day when absolute standards of right and wrong simply don’t exist in the minds of most people. “If it feels good do it,” is the modern approach.
But God said in Proverbs, “Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are His delight.”
The bottom line is, it is never right to do wrong. Even if it is to gain another opportunity to do right. Truthfulness is always a better way to redeem the time.
