Why Is One of the Names for the Antichrist “The Assyrian?”

Welcome to Prophecy Q & A with Jimmy DeYoung!

There are 27 different names given for the Antichrist in Daniel and Revelation 13. There are many different aspects of the description of the Antichrist: the willful king; the god of forces; the god of all gods; and higher than God.

“The Assyrian” is just another name for the Antichrist. In Isaiah 10 it talks about the king of Assyria who was a proudful king and man who lifted himself above God. This is exactly what the Antichrist will do in the end times. As he walks into the Holy of Holies and becomes a friend of Israel and confirms the peace treaty with Israel (Daniel 9), he allows Israel to rebuild the next Temple, the third Temple, that the Jews are preparing to build today. The Antichrist will allow the Jews to go up on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. Today, the Temple Mount is controlled and is called the Al-Aqsa Mosque. It is the third most holy site in Islam, being important to the Islamic world.

The five-story Dome of the Rock will be removed, and the Temple will be rebuilt in the Tribulation. At the midway point of the Tribulation, the Antichrist will walk in and desecrate the Temple, set up the Abomination of Desolation, and turn his back against the Jews. A portion of the Jews will flee to the wilderness. The Antichrist leaves and goes to the reconstructed city of Babylon where he sets up his headquarters and institutes the mark of the beast for a buying and selling world economy. One of his plans is to wipe out the Jewish people which has been one of Satan’s subtle plans from the very beginning, as well as to prevent the Messiah from coming, to corrupt the bloodline from which the Messiah would come, and to prevent Jesus from fulfilling His responsibilities to become the Messiah/Savior for all of mankind. During the Tribulation, he wants to control the world and wipe out the Jewish people, defeat God, and set himself up as God.

“Assyria” is just one of the many names of the Antichrist. He comes out of the Revived Roman Empire and is a Gentile from the Gentile world who will establish himself as the world leader in the end times.
