This is specifically talking about the two witnesses that are preaching in the city of Jerusalem. During the first half of the Tribulation period, the two witnesses will be preaching, headquartered on the Temple Mount in the city of Jerusalem. I believe the two witnesses are Elijah and Enoch, two men who were taken up into the heavenlies. Enoch walked with God, and one day God took him. Elijah was carried up into the heavenlies.
144,000 male virgin Jews will come to know the Lord and will become evangelists who will travel the world. When they die, the world will throw a party (Revelation 11). When they have finished their testimony, the Beast will ascend out of the bottomless pit, make war against them, overcome them, and kill them. Their bodies will lie in the streets of the city, which is Jerusalem, which spiritually is called Sodom or Egypt where also our Lord was crucified.
The Bible says it was called Sodom or Egypt spiritually. Figuratively, John is using the term to describe Jerusalem because of the apostasy and the rejection of God.
