In Revelation 5:9, Who Does the “Us” Refer to?

Welcome to Prophecy Q & A with Jimmy DeYoung!

“And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people,
and nation …”
Revelation 5:9

It is talking about redeemed people, those who have been raptured up. In Revelation 5, the 24 elders, the four beasts, and ten thousand times ten thousand angels are there, and they sing, “Worthy is the Lamb” (Revelation 5:11-12).

Revelation 4 & 5 is the only window that we have into the third heaven. Many people talk about what is going on in the third heaven without ever looking at that window. In Revelation 4:2 and 5:1, there is someone on the throne, and it is not Jesus Christ but God the Father. In Revelation 5:6-7, Jesus Christ comes to the throne and takes out of the right hand of Him Who is seated on the throne (God the Father) the sealed book which contains all 21 of the judgments. Many people in their music and conversation try to put Jesus Christ on the throne; He is not on the throne in heaven. Revelation 5 is evidence of that. He will never have a throne in heaven. Hebrews 1, 8, 10, and 12 say that He is at the right hand of God the Father in the heavenlies. Christ’s throne will be on the Earth, and it is the only throne that Christ will ever have. It will be an eternal throne.

Jimmy DeYoung was a prophecy teacher and journalist who travelled the country and the world educating the Body of Christ of the future events foretold in God’s prophetic Word. His goal was to equip Christians with the knowledge and understanding of what God’s Word says will happen someday soon, so that they can make better decisions today. Dr. DeYoung went home to be with his Savior on August 15, 2021.
