In Revelation 17:8, What Does It Mean, “Whose Names Were Not Written in the Book of Life from the Foundation of the World, When They Behold the Beast that Was, and Is Not, and yet Is?”

Welcome to Prophecy Q & A with Jimmy DeYoung!

The Bible says in Romans 10:13 that whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. It means everybody.

In 2 Peter 3:9, He said that He was not willing that any should perish but that all should come to know Me as Lord and Savior.

John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

These verses destroy the thought that God brought people into existence that were not going to have an opportunity to come to know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

The Bible does not contradict itself. We come to a conclusion by studying. Some verses are difficult to come to an understanding. When Jesus tells John to write down a message for the church in Sardis in Revelation 3:5, He makes this statement, “He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.” 1 John 5:4 says that someone who overcomes is someone who knows Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. He will not blot his name out of the Book of Life. God, in eternity past, put everybody’s name in the book of life, and the only time it can be blotted out is when they reject Christ. If you are an overcomer, your name will not be blotted out of the Book of Life. You can’t lose salvation, so you cannot get saved and then have your name blotted out of the Book of Life.

In the context of Revelation 17:8, “The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.” The names mentioned here were blotted out of the Book of Life because they rejected Christ. They dwelt on the earth, wondering, looking at the Antichrist, Satan, and the False Prophet (Satanic trinity) and thinking that they were right and rejected Jesus Christ. Jesus knows when they have rejected Him and blots their names out of the Book of Life. The Book of Life was from the foundation of the world and the names were put in after the Book of Life was brought in.

We have to conclude that, including all of the other passages of Scripture dealing with the Book of Life from the foundation of the world, they are wondering, and have decided that they are not going to get saved. The Lord knows what is going to happen and blots their names out of the Book of Life.

Jimmy DeYoung was a prophecy teacher and journalist who travelled the country and the world educating the Body of Christ of the future events foretold in God’s prophetic Word. His goal was to equip Christians with the knowledge and understanding of what God’s Word says will happen someday soon, so that they can make better decisions today. Dr. DeYoung went home to be with his Savior on August 15, 2021.
