Welcome to Prophecy Q & A with Jimmy DeYoung!
Dispensationalism and Covenant Theology are the two approaches to eschatology.
At Dallas Seminary, a group of guys, led by Darrly Bock, tried to take the theology or eschatology of Covenant Theology and bring it together with dispensationalism and have a mixture. Charles Ryrie said that this is the slippery slope totally away from a dispensational approach. They are bringing in that the Kingdom is in operation now; it is not in operation now. Jesus Christ is not on the throne in heaven (Revelation 4 & 5).
The three characteristics of a dispensationalist:
- You translate the Word of God literally. Covenant theology translates the Word of God allegorically.
- You separate the Church and Israel. God has a plan for the Church and one for Israel. If you say that the Church has replaced Israel, God’s plan for the Jews is over. Four covenants were given to the Jewish people: the Abrahamic Covenant (Genesis 15); the Land Covenant (Deuteronomy 30); the Davidic Covenant (2 Samuel 7); and the New Covenant (Jeremiah 31:31).
- The purpose of God in history is for the sake of the glory of God.
Covenant theologians negate the plan for Israel and go back to the Mosaic Covenant, which is keeping the Law, or beyond that. It makes them Replacement theologians, saying that God is finished with the Jewish people. They believe that God has now given all the promises that He gave to the Jews to the Church. A Replacement theologian is an antisemite to the highest degree. Pastors, churches, and national organizations are buying into it.
Many young people want to spiritualize Scripture. Beth Moore is a good example of this. She is a dangerous teacher who is a Charismatic. She spiritualizes the Scripture, making Scripture subjective. The Scriptures are objective.
If you are in a church that says that God is finished with the Jewish people, I would get out of it as soon as possible. Find a church that teaches the literal Word of God and that God has a plan for the Jewish people in the future. Our theology is taught by the songs we sing. Be careful of your theology in songs.
Jimmy DeYoung was a prophecy teacher and journalist who travelled the country and the world educating the Body of Christ of the future events foretold in God’s prophetic Word. His goal was to equip Christians with the knowledge and understanding of what God’s Word says will happen someday soon, so that they can make better decisions today. Dr. DeYoung went home to be with his Savior on August 15, 2021.
