In Studying the Book of Revelation, What Is the Chronology for Chapters 4, 5, 10, 12, 13, and 15?

Welcome to Prophecy Q & A with Jimmy DeYoung!

  • Chapters 4 and 5 are in the chronological order that they are to be. Chapters 1-6 are chronologically correct.
  • Chapters 2 and 3 would be the churches in operation at the time that John wrote the book but also representing church history.
  • Chapter 4:1 is the Rapture of the Church. “After this.” The Church period is over.
  • Chapter 4:2, John is in the heavenlies, and John sees what will unfold.
  • Chapter 5:1 says that the one on the throne is God the Father. Jesus Christ is the One Who takes the sealed book out of His hand. Chapter 5 concludes the sealed book which is in the hand of Jesus Christ.
  • Chapter 6:1, John says that he saw the Lamb open the first seal, and the man on the white horse comes first.
  • Chapter 10 is a parenthetical chapter and does not have a definite chronological order but should come before the seventh trumpet judgment after the second woe.
  • Chapter 11:14 refers to the end of the second woe. The third woe being ready to come. Chapter 10 is inserted here.
  • Chapter 13 is the most detailed information about the Antichrist. 13:1-13 is the release of the first sealed judgment. 6:1 is the opening of the first sealed judgment followed by the man on the white horse with a bow in his hand and no arrows, coming to conquer. The Antichrist appears and brings about a pseudo-peace.
  • From chapter 6:1-2 go to 13:1-13 – The rest of chapter 13 happens at the midway point of the Tribulation period. The False Prophet makes an image of the Beast which happens at the midway point. It follows 17:16-17 which is the destruction of the false church.
  • Chapter 17 is the first three and a half years. Then the Antichrist gives the orders to the Revived Roman Empire to wipe out the false church at the same time. Then the Antichrist goes into Jerusalem, walking into the Temple and desecrates it. They put an image of the beast (Revelation 13:14-18).
  • Chapter 12:7-17 is a battle in the heavenlies. Michael, the archangel and commander-in-chief, leads the good angels and tells them to take Satan and throw him out of the heavens and down to the earth. When that happens, the Antichrist and his compatriots do everything they possibly can. Satan will be cast out. The evil angels who committed sexual relationships with human women to bring about the flood in Genesis 6 will be released from the bottomless pit. All the evil angels will be trying to wipe out the Jewish people, hoping that God would fail; this happens at the midway point of the Tribulation period.
  • Chapter 15 is another parenthetical chapter. It happens at the end of the seventh trumpet judgment and before the first vial judgment.
