Welcome to Prophecy Q & A with Jimmy DeYoung!
Isaiah 13 and 14 are talking about the destruction of Babylon. Babylon fell in 539 B.C. under the Meads and the Persians, the short-term fulfillment. Along with Jeremiah 50 and 51, they talk about the total destruction of the Babylonian people. This is referring to modern-day Iraq. Babylon is alive and well and has never been destroyed. Daniel 5 was not the destruction of Babylon, the city, but of the Babylonian Empire. In Ezra 7, Ezra, a scribe who returned to Jerusalem to reinstitute the Temple practices, came from Babylon, 75 years after the fall of the Babylonian Empire. Alexander the Great set up the Grecian kingdom in Babylon; he ruled the world from Babylon.
Peter left to do what the Lord called him to do – to go to the uttermost parts of the earth to teach the Word of God (1 Peter 5:13). He went to Babylon and established a church. Babylon is alive and well today. It was never completely destroyed.
The prime minister of Iraq was from Babylon.
The United States military was there. They messed up the reconstruction of the city of Babylon so badly that they are now paying the Iraqi government millions of dollars for what the soldiers did there.
In prophecy, there is the principle of double fulfillment. When you look at the Scriptures, you might see that the prophet was speaking of something that was going to happen in the near future, but also something that would be fulfilled in the distant future.
Isaiah 13:3 states, “I have commanded my sanctified ones, I have also called my mighty ones for mine anger, even them that rejoice in my highness.”
Babylon will come back to power, but we will be gone. The Rapture will occur before all of this happens. This is the scenario of the future. These prophecies will be fulfilled during the seven-year Tribulation period before the return of Jesus Christ.
Jimmy DeYoung was a prophecy teacher and journalist who travelled the country and the world educating the Body of Christ of the future events foretold in God’s prophetic Word. His goal was to equip Christians with the knowledge and understanding of what God’s Word says will happen someday soon, so that they can make better decisions today. Dr. DeYoung went home to be with his Savior on August 15, 2021.
