Does Matthew 24:3-42 Describe the Rapture?

Welcome to Prophecy Q & A with Jimmy DeYoung!

Matthew 24: 3-42 does not describe the Rapture of the Church. It’s talking about the Second Coming. This is what Jesus is teaching. The idea of the Rapture had not even been presented at the time that this was written. A few days later in the Upper Room, Jesus Christ did introduce the Rapture when He said to the disciples in John 14:1-3, “Let not your heart be troubled. Ye believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions. If it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” We are received unto Jesus Christ, not at the Second Coming but at the Rapture of the Church. This is a reference to the Rapture, but the disciples didn’t understand.

The Olivet Discourse, Matthew 24, was a few days earlier and is talking about the Second Coming. It is a preview of the Book of Revelation. He said that there would be signs, wonders, and miracles which will be the setup for the appearance of Antichrist, the deceiver who claims to be the Jewish Messiah when he is actually a Gentile. There will also be wars and rumors of wars as well as famine and pestilence and earthquakes. These are the sixth seal judgments of Revelation 6.

Tribulation saints will be resurrected at the end of the Tribulation (Revelation 20:4-6). Those who died because they were martyrs during the Tribulation will be resurrected at the end of the Tribulation period.

Jimmy DeYoung was a prophecy teacher and journalist who travelled the country and the world educating the Body of Christ of the future events foretold in God’s prophetic Word. His goal was to equip Christians with the knowledge and understanding of what God’s Word says will happen someday soon, so that they can make better decisions today. Dr. DeYoung went home to be with his Savior on August 15, 2021.
