Welcome to Prophecy Q & A with Jimmy DeYoung!
Jesus read Isaiah 61:1-2 on a Sabbath Day in a synagogue in Nazareth. Isaiah 61:2, “To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;” Part A of this verse is a description of the Messiah. Part B refers to another time.
The synagogue overlooked the Jezreel Valley. Jesus knew to stop and not read part B of the portion of Isaiah because in Isaiah 63, Jesus would respond to several rhetorical questions from Isaiah 63:1, “Who is this that cometh from Edom, With dyed garments from Bozrah? This that is glorious in his apparel, Travelling in the greatness of his strength? I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save.” After the Battle of Armageddon, Jesus will walk 176 miles down a trail of blood and will go to Petra to get the Jews who will be protected there during the last three and a half years of the Tribulation Period. Bozrah is at the entrance of Petra, located in Edom. Jesus said that He was the one coming in glorious apparel from Edom.
The next question in Isaiah 63:2 was, “Wherefore art thou red in thine apparel, and thy garments like him that treadeth in the winefat?” He had been stepping on the grapes and squeezing out the juice. In Isaiah 62:3-4 Jesus answers, “I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the people there was none with me: for I will tread them in mine anger, and trample them in my fury: and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my raiment. For the day of vengeance is in mine heart, and the year of my redeemed is come.” This is what Luke 4:17-20 is talking about.
