Welcome to Prophecy Q & A with Jimmy DeYoung!
It is a prophecy against the Palestinian people today. Tracing back through history, the Edomites were fathered by Esau, and, today, they are the Palestinian people.
The word “saviors,” in Hebrew, can be translated several ways: saved, delivered, victorious, etc. In the context, in verse 15, it is a prophecy of what is going to happen in the last days. It says that when the Day of the Lord is about to happen upon the Earth, and the Edomites and the Palestinians have been very aggressively controlling the holy mountain of God which is the Temple Mount, which is what they are doing today. It says in verse 16 that they have grown drunk with the power. Obadiah 17 says, “But upon Mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.” The time of the Day of the Lord, the return of the Lord, is when He comes back to the Earth. That is the time in history when the Jewish people will be given their possessions, the promise of a land.
Obadiah 18 says, “And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble, and they shall kindle in them, and devour them; and there shall not be any remaining of the house of Esau; for the Lord hath spoken it.” This refers to when Jesus Christ comes back, and the Jewish people, the “house of Jacob,” will be the flame and the “house of Esau (the Palestinian people)” will be the kindling or the wood or stubble in that fire. They will be devoured as if they have never been. Jeremiah 49:18 says like Sodom and Gomorrah, as if they had never been.
Obadiah 19 and 20, it sees who will be taking what part of the area that the Edomites would have controlled and into Jerusalem, etc. Verse 21 makes this statement: “And saviors (the saved, not necessarily salvation but those who are delivered or victorious, the Jewish people) shall come up on Mount Zion (Jerusalem) to judge the mount of Esau (verse 18); and the kingdom shall be the Lord’s.”
This is not talking about Christians. Christians are not in sight. The Messiah, Jesus Christ, is talking about the Jewish people, the survivors of that time, the time of Jacob’s trouble.
Jimmy DeYoung was a prophecy teacher and journalist who travelled the country and the world educating the Body of Christ of the future events foretold in God’s prophetic Word. His goal was to equip Christians with the knowledge and understanding of what God’s Word says will happen someday soon, so that they can make better decisions today. Dr. DeYoung went home to be with his Savior on August 15, 2021.
