Welcome to Prophecy Q & A with Jimmy DeYoung!
Ezekiel 29:11-13 states that there will be a 40-year period of time. Verse 13 says, “Yet thus saith the Lord GOD; at the end of forty years will I gather the Egyptians from the people whither they were scattered:” Verse 12 mentions the desolate period of time for the Egyptian people. In the context, it is not talking about the future, but I believe it is talking about the past.
Verses 17-21 talk about Nebuchadnezzar, who is going to come and attack Egypt. Nebuchadnezzar was the crown prince in 605 B.C. when he took Daniel and his three friends into captivity. Nebuchadnezzar went into Syria and was in the process of defeating the Assyrians when the Egyptians came up to join in the battle against Babylon. Nebuchadnezzar defeated the Assyrians, and he drove the Egyptians back down through the land bridge (modern-day Israel) into northern Africa (back into Egypt). At this time, he devastated the Egyptians. This was key for him to be able to come to power and develop the Babylonian empire. His father died, and Nebuchadnezzar would return to Babylon to become king.
Nebuchadnezzar did scatter the Jews and took them out of Israel for 70 years; the Jews went into the Babylonian Captivity. I believe the desolation of Egypt happened at the same time. This will not happen during the Tribulation or rapture. This was in the past.
