Welcome to Prophecy Q & A with Jimmy DeYoung!
Jesus Christ is indeed going to return to this earth and build a Temple (Zechariah 6:12). In Zechariah 6:13, He is going to rule and reign from that Temple. The Temple will stand on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem for a thousand-year period of time in fulfillment of the Davidic Covenant. The Lord made a promise to King David, and Jeremiah 33 says that you will have to get rid of night and day completely before He can break His promise to King David.
Jesus is the branch referred to (Zechariah 6:12) who will build the Temple. In Zechariah 1:16, He said that He would return to Jerusalem and build His Temple. He said that He was very much concerned with those who were at ease on the Temple Mount, controlling the city of Jerusalem. He said that He was jealous. Jesus says, “I am aggressively possessive for the Temple Mount area.”
Psalm 132:13-14 talks about the fact that He will return to Jerusalem and dwell among His people forever. Isaiah 2 and Micah 4 state that the Word of the Lord will go forth from the Temple in the city of Jerusalem. Ezekiel 40-46 gives a pattern for building the Temple. Two hundred and two verses give detailed information about Messiah’s Temple. In chapter 45, He talks about reinstituting the temple practices. Those practices will once again be in place. It says that the prince will offer these sacrifices. Jesus Christ is NOT the prince, but the King of Kings. In Ezekiel 34 and 37, it says that God will give King David as the prince. In fact, the word “prince” is used 24 times between Ezekiel 34-46.
Jesus Christ will not offer a sacrifice since He is the ultimate sacrifice. King David will implement the sacrificial system at the Temple on the Temple Mount in the Millennial Kingdom, the thousand-year reign of Christ. Sacrifices in the past never took away sin. Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, only covered sin. Sacrifices in the future will not take away sin either. They will be a memorial, and the Jewish people will be reminded on a daily basis of the reason the whole sacrificial system was implemented. Communion in the New Testament is a reminder of how Jesus Christ gave His life, shed His blood with his body hanging on a tree. It is a reminder; we do not crucify Him and shed His blood again. He said to do it in memory of Him, and we are to do it until He comes.
The New Covenant will be given to the Jewish people in the Book of Hebrews. Christians don’t receive the New Covenant. We are not the New Covenant people. Jeremiah 31:31 says “I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah.” He will give it to the Jewish people. He said that He would be their God, and they would be His people. The sacrifices of the past simply covered sin.
There will be people born during the Millennial Kingdom with physical bodies. There will be Jews that live through the Tribulation period. They will go into the Millennial Kingdom and will be able to have children. During that time, some of those will be Jewish children who will then have an opportunity to have their sins covered (restoration of fellowship). Jesus will be our High Priest after the order of Melchizedek.
Jimmy DeYoung was a prophecy teacher and journalist who travelled the country and the world educating the Body of Christ of the future events foretold in God’s prophetic Word. His goal was to equip Christians with the knowledge and understanding of what God’s Word says will happen someday soon, so that they can make better decisions today. Dr. DeYoung went home to be with his Savior on August 15, 2021.
