JD: President Trump is moving ahead, he made a promise during the time of his campaigning that he would put a peace plan together to bring some type of a resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Somebody is leaking and I’m not sure if it’s the Palestinians or the Trump organization calling for a two state solution. Now wait a minute let me explain the two states. Two states that are Palestinian states, one in the Gaza Strip and one in the Ramallah area. Have you heard about that?
WM: Well Jimmy it might surprise some people but at the present moment the Palestinian Authority itself is basically a two entity existence with Hamas in charge of Gaza and the Palestinian Arabs in charge in Judea and Samaria and what we know as the West Bank. So for all practicality I always like to say Israel will make the peace with the Palestinian Arabs once they make peace among themselves which they haven’t done. This week the Egyptians came into Gaza to try to smooth things over again. You know it still should not get excited just sit back and wait for them to get their act together.
JD: So then you think Israel may even consider this set up and possibly move ahead with it?
WM: The best way to get the peace is to first of all to have economic prosperity for all, cooperation between Jews and Arabs on a very basic element of making money and providing good salaries and conditions for all the employees. And if everybody is happy then eventually maybe they get to see that it’s possible to make peace. So his man on the ground here is doing something a little bit different. I’m not quite sure what the end result will be. But I can tell you that if you say a two state solution of the Palestinian Authority as two states that’s too many states of Arab states in the old Palestinian mandate period territory. So I think that we still have to wait for a better plan.
