We’re on the fifth day of looking at praying with song, and today we’ll look at Habakkuk 3.
Habakkuk isn’t one of the more well known prophets – we know less about him than probably any other Biblical writer. However he teachers us something interesting about prayer:
[1] A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet upon Shigionoth.
Habakkuk 3:1
In chapter 3, we see Habakkuk’s prayer for mercy:
[2] O LORD, I have heard thy speech, and was afraid: O LORD, revive thy work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy.
Habakkuk 3:2
We see Habakkuk’s extolment of the glory of God:
[3] God came from Teman, and the Holy One from mount Paran. Selah. His glory covered the heavens, and the earth was full of his praise.
Habakkuk 3:3
Yet interestingly by the end of the chapter it somehow transitions from a prayer to a song!
[19] The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds’ feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. To the chief singer on my stringed instruments.

My conclusion is that it’s ok to sing our prayers! We can praise our God and recognize His attributes in our prayers!
