Weak border security policies continue to endanger citizens of the United States. Todd Bensman’s reporting from Colombia exposes how this administration is complicit in enabling a complex human smuggling operation controlled by the Gaitanist Self-Defense Forces of Colombia, also known as the Gulf Cartel. These cartels exploit desperate migrants while the federal government turns a blind eye, Bensman wrote in The American Mind.
Bensman rightly points out that U.S. taxpayer money, under the Biden administration, was funneled to support an international migration superhighway, transforming what was once a small migration route into a flood of hundreds of thousands of migrants. Panama, under pressure from U.S. officials, tried to block the Darien Gap—a notorious passage for illegal migration—by signing an agreement to crack down on this smuggling corridor. Yet, as Bensman notes, this effort was sabotaged when the Biden-Harris administration failed to fund the necessary deportation flights. This allowed smuggling operations to continue unchecked, with cartels profiting from migrants and exacerbating the crisis at our southern border.
Bensman’s reporting reveals the devastating consequences of the administration’s policies. Bensman stated, “Panama’s plans to permanently return traffic through the Darien Gap to pre-Biden levels depend greatly on U.S. funding… Early U.S. responses to Panamanian pleas for required financial and diplomatic assistance strongly indicate that the Biden-Harris government is not authentically interested.” This abdication of responsibility allows Islamic terrorists, Chinese spies, and African war criminals to infiltrate the U.S., threatening national security.
The reality is clear: an open borders policy fuels chaos and enriches criminal organizations. Unchecked immigration must be stopped, and law and order must be restored. Anything less is a betrayal of American sovereignty. It harms American citizens at home and threatens our national security.
