No Borders, No Nation

The border crisis we face is nothing short of an invasion. Adam Ellwanger, in a July American Mind article, points to the Biden Administration’s reluctance to curb illegal entries, noting that up to 13 million foreigners have crossed into the U.S. illegally since Biden took office. He stated correctly, “If you don’t have borders, you don’t have a nation.”

Governor Greg Abbott of Texas has taken significant steps to address the issue independently, recognizing the federal government’s failure. He has declared the situation an “invasion,” a term that Ellwanger argues is not only accurate but necessary to convey the gravity of the situation. Democrats, predictably, have decried this characterization. But Ellwanger insists that the southern border crisis fits the definition of an invasion, and it must be stopped by any means necessary.

Ellwanger outlines five key characteristics of an invasion: lack of invitation, predominance of military-aged men, self-interested motivation, carrying home nation insignia, and posing a threat to the social order.

He draws historical parallels, noting that no formal invitation was extended to the people now crossing the border illegally. The overwhelming presence of military-aged men among the migrants further supports the invasion narrative, as does their pursuit of personal economic benefits.

Illegal immigrants resist assimilation with all their might. They often display the flags and symbols of their home countries. This shows a brazen lack of intent to integrate. Their primary goal is to exploit American opportunities rather than become part of the American fabric.

The unchecked influx of illegal immigrants threatens to transform American society, eroding the nation’s cultural and social cohesion. Ellwanger calls for decisive action to preserve the nation’s identity and security. Acknowledging the invasion is the first step toward addressing the humanitarian catastrophe at the border and safeguarding the American way of life.
