Last year, the Supreme Court ended Affirmative Action. Affirmative action was a terrible system that essentially rewarded minority students for poor academic performance. Our institutions of higher learning should be merit-based. They should seek to educate future American workers to use their smarts and skills to do well in their careers and lives. They should not teach them to use race as a shortcut or bludgeon to get what they want. Despite the ending of affirmative action, though, some colleges still seek to tell students that their race is all they need to get by.
For example, Indiana University decided that race-based scholarships would be a good way to fit in with the left-wing trend of racial communism. Thankfully, civil rights groups are targeting these horrible scholarships. Campus Reform reports:
“The Equal Protection Project (EPP) filed the complaint against the university on July 15. The group has filed around 30 similar complaints against universities throughout the United States. The group hopes that the case will be investigated by the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights.”
These scholarships are in blatant violation of federal law. Author Patrick McDonald further states:
“William Jacobson, president of the EPP, told The Herald-Times that the 19 scholarships under legal scrutiny at Indiana University are the most that EPP has challenged at a single college.”
Meritocracy produces the best results in society. Rewarding or punishing students simply for the color of their skin flies in the face of everything the United States stands for. If we as a country want to march bravely and strongly into the future, we should focus exclusively on merit. Diversity, equity, and inclusion as the default program for society only leads to failure.
