It’s September 19, 1796. I’m listening to President Washington’s Farewell Address. Let’s see if we can pick up some of his parting advice to America.
GW: “Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports. It is substantially true that virtue and morality is a necessary part of popular government.”
President Washington’s great wisdom in his farewell address used to be commonly taught throughout schools in America. This is no longer the case.
