Experience the American dream with today’s Patriot of the Past interview. I’m your host, John Gillespie.
It’s July 9, 1780. I’m with Grace and Rachel Martin in South Carolina. We’re by the road, waiting to ambush a British courier.
JG: “Grace and Rachel, why are you wearing men’s clothes?”
G&RM: “Mr. Gillespie, our husbands are off fighting with General Greene. We can’t just sit around while they fight for our freedom. John, we’re going to ambush the Redcoat courier and take his documents to General Greene. Here he comes … surrender, you British bum!”
COURIER: “Yes, sir!”
The Martin ladies successfully took the British courier papers to General Greene, giving valuable military secrets to the American army.
