Experience the American dream with today’s Patriot of the Past interview. I’m your host, John Gillespie.
It’s October 21, 1777. I’m with the Surgeon General of the Continental Army, Dr. Benjamin Rush. He’s calling for the resignation of General Washington.
JG: “Dr. Rush, why have you called for Washington to step down?”
BR: “Mr. Gillespie, I’m sorry, but our army is in a desperate situation and we need new leadership. General Washington is incompetent and can’t lead our new nation anymore.”
Our army survived that horrible winter of 1777, and the few leaders who doubted soon realized Washington was a great commander.
