Thomas Jefferson – March 4, 1805

It’s March 4, 1805. I’m in Washington attending President Jefferson’s second inaugural address. Let’s listen to some of his speech.

TJ: “I do truly believe that if the principle were to prevail, where the United States Government possesses all the powers of the state government, thus reduced to a single consolidated government, it would become the most corrupt government on Earth.”

President Jefferson believed that government that governs best, governs least. Our forefathers envisioned the federal government that allowed state and local governments, and the citizens, broad authority to make their own decisions.
