Joseph Martin – December 25, 1776

Experience the American dream with today’s Patriot of the Past interview. I’m your host, John Gillespie.

It’s Christmas Day, 1776. I’m crossing the Delaware River with Jacob and Joseph Martin in 40-foot longboats. The howling winds and blizzard conditions are cutting right through to our bones.

JG: “Mr. Martin, is General Washington crazy? You’re outnumbered, out-fed, out-clothed, and you’re attacking in this God-forsaken weather!”

JaM: “John, what you say is all true, but if God is for us, who can prevail against us? On this Christmas Day, we must trust in His providence. We can do no other.”

The Washington boys did trust God that Christmas Day of 1776, and in complete surprise, they captured 1500 Hessian soldiers.

John and Jan Gillespie are the founders of the Rawhide Boys’ Ranch; they have fostered 351 teenagers and wrote the book Our 351 Sons; they have also assisted numerous churches in developing youth programs and expanding their total church ministries. After running for U.S. Senate, John founded 1776 American Dream, which exists to demonstrate the vision of our founding fathers and help our generation of youth passionately embrace those values.
