It’s July 1, 1775. I’m with Martha Washington who is reading a letter from her husband, George. He has just been voted by Congress to be the Commander in Chief of the Army.
JG: “Mrs. Washington, can you share your husband’s thoughts with us on his appointment?”
MW: “My husband does not desire this position. He’d rather be home with our family, and is asking God to give him the strength to lead America with wisdom.”
Like her husband, Martha Washington was a plain spoken, kind, and gentle woman who tended to sick soldiers and prayed for them.
