Experience the American dream with today’s Patriot of the Past interview. I’m your host, John Gillespie.
It’s September 17, 1796. I’m with President George Washington who has just finished his farewell address.
JG: “Mr. President, what is your definition of an American?”
GW: “Mr. Gillespie, the name American must always exact the pride of patriotism more than any other title. With slight shades of difference, we have the same religion, manners, habits and political principles. We have fought and triumphed together for a common cause.”
