It’s June 28, 1787. I’m at the Constitutional Convention and the delegates are embroiled in a bitter debate over how each state is to be represented in the new government. Eighty-one-year-old Benjamin Franklin is rising to speak. Let’s listen in.
BF: “Sir, I have lived a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid?”
Franklin’s words calm the convention and helped our founding fathers to seek God’s guidance in creating our democratic republic.
