It’s January 3, 1701. I’m in the Capitol building of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with its state founder and governor, William Penn.
JG: “Governor Penn, what is the key to governing your colony?”
WP: “Mr. Gillespie, thou asketh a fine question. In my book, No Cross, No Crown, I write, ‘If man is not governed by God, he will be governed by tyrants.'”
William Penn established Pennsylvania on this principle and it became one of the key colonies fighting for liberty.
