Sold its Soul

A Catholic hospital in Iowa claimed a thirty-five week old preborn child is not a “person.”  The baby’s parents are suing Catholic Health Initiatives for failing to act before their baby was delivered stillborn.  If the nonperson status were to hold, the medical conglomerate would’ve avoided a higher financial liability for their inaction.  This happened even though the hospital, in its ethics guidelines claims to respect “the sacredness of every human life from the moment of conception until death.”  Things really hit the fan and the hospital dropped the legal challenge.  The CEO actually said, “we are heartbroken our belief that human personhood begins at conception would ever be called into question.”  If hospitals had souls, this one would’ve just sold it for financial gain.
