Researchers found that music can calm the breast of not the savage beast but the precious unborn child. Thirty-six pregnant women participated in the study. The researchers consisted of two universities, a hospital and the National Institute of Cardiology. They played two pieces of classical music for the babies while observing their heartbeats on external heart rate monitors. The music “resulted in more stable and predictable heart rate patterns.” They speculate the music can stimulate the development of the babies’ nervous system. While both pieces of music were effective, the babies seemed to prefer the sound of the Mexican guitar more than the other selection. Over four decades ago we played classical music for our oldest child. He loves the music to this day.
