The Commonwealth Fund released a scorecard on women’s health and reproductive care. Many in the media pointed out that states in the Northeast where permissive abortion laws exist did better than the Southeast where pro-life states are. But the comparison was made on twenty-twenty-two data. The Dobbs decision wasn’t until June and many states didn’t pass pro-life legislation until later in the year. The scorecard didn’t compare between pre and post Dobbs data and shared no evidence pro-life laws negatively impacted public-health outcomes. It also didn’t consider the South is home to more poverty, thus more negative health outcomes. But a growing body of data shows pro-life laws are followed by positive public-health outcomes. Why is it the media doesn’t tell you that? I think I know.
