Fast Facts: Birds (Part 3)

Welcome to Fast Facts with Reasons for Hope!

I’m Carl Kerby, and this time we’re talking about hummingbirds. They’re small, unbelievable, and very tough with over 325 species.

Take the Rufous Hummingbird.  Every year they migrate from Alaska to Mexico, making a round trip of 3,800 miles..

When hummingbirds hover, they beat their wings more than 52 times a second! Depending on their direction of flight and air conditions, hummingbirds can flap their wings up to 200 times per second.

The Sword-billed Hummingbird has an almost 4-inch bill.  It’s the only bird with a bill that’s longer than its body.

One fact that I can’t begin to comprehend is that a hummingbird’s heart rate is more than 1,200 beats per minute! Fact is, hummingbirds are one of God’s amazing creatures, but there are other amazing birds as well.

One bird has the largest eye … sorry, our time’s up so we’ll have to talk next time in Fast Facts with Reasons for Hope.  Until then … stay bold!
