Fast Facts: Cheetah (Part 2)

Welcome to Fast Facts with Reasons for Hope!

I’m Carl Kerby.

Today, we’re talking about the fastest thing on four legs – the cheetah. God has certainly built this 3-foot, 140-pound mammal for speed.

They have a small, lightweight body frame that’s aerodynamic, wide nostrils that take in up to 150 breaths per minute, and a powerful circulatory system that uses their strong heart and arteries to beat up to 250 beats a minute!

Cheetahs also have fast twitch fibers in their powerful legs which contract quickly, and its skeletal structure allows it to bend and flex like a spring.

Their paws have hard pads and semi-retractable claws giving them amazing traction. To top everything off, their 2-3 foot weighted tail acts like a rudder, allowing for quick, sharp turns by counteracting their bodyweight as they hunt.

If that doesn’t point to a perfect Designer, then stay tuned to find out how fast they can actually run! But, that’s for next time.  Until then … stay bold!
