Fast Facts: Cheetah (Part 1)

Welcome to Fast Facts with Reasons for Hope!

I’m Carl Kerby.

I have to tell you guys – I think I’m seeing spots. That’s your clue because today’s animal is named after the Hindi word which means “the spotted one.” That’s right … we’re talking about the fast-paced expert – the cheetah!

One thing that makes this remarkable creature stand out … or should we say, “blend in” … is that beautiful coat. The light-shade fur and the dark spots camouflage this cat to seem like a shadow in the gray-hued grasses they inhabit. This perfect design feature is essential to help the cheetah get close to its prey, and it’s vital for protecting it from predators.  And those distinct “tear-stained” black marks from their eyes to their nose actually help with the glare of the sun as they hunt.

Each cheetah has a spot and tail ring pattern that is as unique as your fingerprint.

We’re just getting started on how amazing this animal is, so check back for more Fast Facts with Reasons for Hope. Until then … stay bold!
