Fast Facts: Butterfly (Part 5)

Welcome to Fast Facts with Reasons for Hope!

I’m Carl Kerby, and we’re talking about butterflies.

Aside from metamorphosis, the butterfly has more amazement to offer the curious and critically-thinking mind.

Take for example the Monarch Butterfly.  Did you know that 300 Million of these beauties will head down to Mexico for the winter?  And they will get there without having ever been there before!  Not one of them!  The last one there was their great-grandparents!

You see … Monarchs are born in May and have a lifespan of about 2-4 weeks.  But the last generation of the year, born in August, will live up to 9 months!  This is called the Methuselah generation.  Ask your parents to tell you about Methuselah.

This is what we call a baffling biological mystery!

Fact is … there is no answer that evolutionary biology can give us that even comes close to explaining this.

Who gave all these butterflies information to fly to the same exact mountain every year?  God knows!

We’ll talk more about these amazing creatures in another Fast Facts with Reasons for Hope.

Until then … stay bold!
